Common Questions

What is the difference between Clarity II and LaseMD Ultra?

Clarity II uses Alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser wavelengths for hair removal and long-term hair reduction, as well as selected pigmentation and vascular concerns. LaseMD Ultra is a non-ablative fractional laser that targets water in the skin for resurfacing and improvements in skin tone and texture. It can address fine lines, pigmentation and mild to moderate sun damage. Our team will assess your concerns and recommend the appropriate treatment.

How does LaseMD Ultra work?

LaseMD Ultra delivers non-ablative fractional laser energy that targets water molecules in the skin. Treatment intensity can be customized, from light resurfacing to a deeper treatment, according to your skin concerns and treatment goals.

What concerns can LaseMD Ultra address?

LaseMD Ultra can help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone, skin texture, pigmentation, age spots, sunspots and freckles, and mild to moderate sun damage. Treatment options also include the décolletage.

What does a LaseMD Ultra treatment feel like?

You may feel heat and tingling as the laser passes over your skin. Depending on treatment depth, a numbing cream may be applied before the procedure to improve comfort.

How long does a LaseMD Ultra treatment take?

A mild treatment may take as little as 5 minutes, while a deeper treatment may take up to 20 minutes. The time depends on the treatment area and intensity.

What should I expect after LaseMD Ultra treatment?

Temporary redness can occur immediately after treatment. After a light treatment, it may settle by the following day, while deeper treatments can require up to a week of healing. Recovery varies with treatment depth and your skin. Our team will provide aftercare guidance, including when to resume makeup and normal activities.

When might I see results from LaseMD Ultra?

Some clients notice visible improvements within 2–5 days, with healing taking up to a week depending on treatment depth. Your recovery and results may vary. Our team will explain what to expect for your treatment plan.

How many LaseMD Ultra treatments will I need?

The number and frequency of treatments depend on your skin concerns and desired results. Your provider will work with you to develop an individual treatment plan and discuss whether maintenance treatments are appropriate.

How do I know which treatment is suitable for me?

Book a consultation so our team can review your skin, concerns and treatment goals. We will discuss suitable treatment options, expected recovery and an individual plan.

What should I do before a Clarity II treatment?

Follow these preparation instructions and any individual guidance from your provider:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning, including tanning beds and self-tanners, for at least 2–4 weeks before treatment.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to the areas to be treated.
  • Discontinue retinoids such as Retin-A or tretinoin, glycolic/salicylic acids and other exfoliants at least 5–7 days before treatment. Discuss changes to prescribed products with your provider.
  • Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion or waxing in the treatment area for 1–2 weeks before your session. For hair removal, follow the longer restriction below.
  • Tell your provider about photosensitizing medications, such as doxycycline or minocycline, and blood thinners.
  • Tell your provider if you have a history of cold sores. Antiviral medication may be prescribed.
  • Shave the areas to be treated 1–3 days before treatment, as recommended in your care instructions.
  • For hair removal treatments, do not wax, pluck, thread or use depilatory creams for 4–6 weeks before treatment.
  • On treatment day, keep the treatment area free of makeup, lotions, deodorant and oils.
What should I expect after a Clarity II treatment?

Follow these aftercare instructions and any individual guidance from your provider:

  • Mild redness and swelling may appear immediately after treatment and can last up to 2–3 days. The area may feel like a sunburn for a few hours.
  • Cooling or a cold compress may help ease discomfort. A non-occlusive topical product, such as aloe vera, can help soothe the area.
  • You may resume your normal skincare routine, including makeup, moisturizers, deodorant and shaving, the next day ONLY if there is no redness, blistering or crusting.
  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher throughout the treatment series.
  • Do not pick or scratch the treated area, as this may cause irritation or scarring.
  • Avoid swimming, sports and strenuous exercise for the first 2–3 days, or until any redness, crusting or blisters have resolved.
  • After hair removal treatments, continue to avoid waxing, electrolysis and tweezing in the treated area. These methods can disrupt the hair follicle and reduce treatment effectiveness.
